Want to see whether they grow true as some companies sell Beth Alpha as F1.Sown 15/2. The DFB germinated within 5 days. The Beth Alpha are interesting because both commercial and saved seeds were packed in 2018. The Commercial ones (Seekay Hort) have a sow by date of 2020. First ones to germinate are the saved ones - no sign of life in the Seekay modules yet. RE: 2022 - What I sowed today - MartinH - 22-02-2022 It was a lovely afternoon, so I made some space on the heated propagator in the greenhouse and sowed: Tomato "Alicante" Tomato "Piccolo" Tomato "Gardener's Delight" Pepper "King Of The North" Aubretia "Spring Falls" Papaver nudicaule (Iceland poppy) mixed Dianthus carthusianorum (German pink) Baptisia australis (Wild blue indigo) Eccremocarpus scaber (Chilean glory flower) Ammi majus (Bishop's flower) Eryngium bourgatii (Mediterranean sea holly) Eryngium giganteum (Mrs Willmot's ghost) Lupinus arboreus (Tree lupin) Salvia nemorosa (Woodland sage) Veronica longifolia (garden speedwell) Papaver rupifagum "Double Tangerine Gem" (Spanish poppy) Potentilla thurberi "Monarch's Velvet" (Scarlet cinquefoil) Dahlia "Redskin" Rudbeckia hirta "Rustic Dwarfs" (Black-Eyed Susan) Rudbeckia hirta "Cherokee Sunset" Rudbeckia gloriosa "Daisies mixed" The flowers were mostly sown in John Innes Seed Compost, although it seemed a bit claggy so I mixed in some extra sand. I have to say, I don't see why they are allowed to call it John Innes now that they are using peat substitutes. Reducing peat usage is fine, but I wish they would take the lumps out of the replacement material and consider whether to amend the formula to give it the open, airy consistency we are used to. Still, I expect it will be fine. And if it isn't, I won't have to blame myself. I did the tomatoes in multipurpose compost, like always. RE: 2022 - What I sowed today - Garrett - 22-02-2022 I sowed the peas from the seed swap - Mangetout "Bijou" & "Golden Sweet" and the Lord Leicester tall pea. Very excited to see what they're like as I haven't grown mangetout before. I also sowed some Cape Gooseberry seeds I had from a magazine. RE: 2022 - What I sowed today - Mark_Riga - 24-02-2022 Sowed my tomatoes yesterday, a bit early but as I tend to graft most of them this sets them back a couple of weeks. submarine to be used as the rootstock Roma VF to be tried as a rootstock Alicante Gardeners delight Orange banana Galina then trying Delicious Brandywine red Omars Lebanese Black Beauty and long purple aubergines germinated today, no sign yet for any capsicums. RE: 2022 - What I sowed today - JJB - 26-02-2022 It's scary, as soon as the sun comes out, no matter what time of year, all caution flies out the window and I take risks with sowing seed that I know will probably fail, I can't help it. Should I seek therapy? Sowed today in gh Pea oregon sugar pod Lettuce two types Lobelia two types Delphinium Coreopsis California poppy - I know they don't like transplanting but nothing ventured nothing gained A few morning glory - ditto I'm going to rummage around in the seed boxes tomorrow to see what else I can take a flyer with. RE: 2022 - What I sowed today - Garrett - 27-02-2022 Rudbeckia Marmalade I've checked on my peas and sweet peas sown earlier in the week and they've all come up which is great. Also, some of the perennial kale is peeking through (winter sown outside in their mini greenhouses made from supermarket grape trays). RE: 2022 - What I sowed today - JJB - 27-02-2022 I've put some old sweet pea seed to soak and will sow them tomorrow, I don't think they will do anything though.
